Hello,
I have a problem with application not remembering settings I altered in them. Currently these are two: Kget: - Not remembering the column widths, - but remembering window position. KWrite: - Not remembering any setting (schema, word wrap, scroll bar) and - Not remembering window position. Any hints? TIA |

Does it apply to all KDE applications?

Can you please verify that your user owns your home directory, and all files/directories below ~/.kde and ~/.kde4 in particular?

No, it seems rather random. Also sometimes settings, but not window position is remembered and vice versa (as with kget and kwrite). Yes, I do. Also I can edit "/home/richard/.kde4/share/config/kwriterc" by hand for instance. |

Can you reproduce this behaviour under a new user?

I tested with another user and there is also this problem... |

That is quite unusual... which version of KDE are you using, and have you got all components of kde-runtime installed on your system?

KDE Version:
regarding kde-runtime how do I find out?
Thanks. |

If that package is installed, then I think we can safely assume all necessary components of kde-runtime are installed.
Do other KDE settings, such as colour scheme, etc. get saved and remembered properly?

Yes, no other problems (I'm aware of ...). I posted this now also on the chakra forum. They confirmed the bug with kwrite. So the question is now is this packaging (ie. distribution specific) or an upstream (ie. KDE) issue... @everybody: Please test this on your KDE 4.11.x installation and report here if it works or doesn't work. Some quick tests: - Kget: Change column widths, close and reopen the app (make sure to kill it from systray for a proper close). - Kwrite: Change "Show line numbers" (F11), close and reopen Kwrite. Thanks. |

I can confirm this, have the same problem for a while already (since upgrading to 4.11?). Seems to be a bug/regression in kget. You have to enable the line numbers in Settings->Configure Editor...->Appearance->Border. Then the setting will get saved. F11 is just for quickly toggling it on/off in the current session. But I'm sure it's been this way already for years. |

KDE 4.11.3 openSUSE distribution. Kwrite: The setting of "Show line numbers" is not preserved. (It is however in kate) Unable to test Kget. |

Now I never knew that... ... Thanks wolfi323 |

Ok, this is somewhat unexpected, but you seem to be right, it is indeed preserved in the settings menu vs. when I do it in the view menu... Didn't expect this. And what about the window position? Is this also a session setting? |

Well, I cannot say for sure if this is by design or a bug, but I never really viewed it as bug. And as already said, it's like that for years. But actually it's quite straightforward to change the settings via the settings menu, isn't it?
No, it doesn't remember the window position here, only the size. |
