Difference between filename vs file title?

So, I have this file. In my file system it is called "Foo....pdf" and in Okular it is called "Foo....xls" and the F11 information panel's "Title" (as well as Krunner and Lancelot searches) calls it "Bar....pdf" (where [...] are some names).

So my main interest is knowing what the difference between these three are. As a bonus, is there a way to make it so KDE in general displays the filename as well (maybe in parenthesis or as a caption)? If I search "Foo" in Krunner or Lancelot I don't get "Foo....pdf" but I get "Bar....pdf", and when I search for "Bar" I don't get anything. This happens with a large portion of my files in general, and on occasion the Title will be a series of characters (e.g. greek letters).

My natural thought when I search for "Foo" and I get back a result that is "Bar....pdf" or some greek letters is that the file was not found. I find this confusing, and if there is no fix I will settle for an explanation for now. Many thanks!

The title Okular is using is likely drawn from the PDF file itself. The information panel, KRunner and Lancelot all use the same metadata extraction system - which explains why they give the same name, but that name should match the one given by Okular, at least in the case of PDF files.

Would you be able to post one of these files somewhere so I can perform some tests here locally?

Here are two papers I downloaded just today. Okular shows the same name as my file system, but Lancelot, Krunner, and the information panel show a different name.

Many thanks!

In Okular, is this information visible from File > Properties?

The info from the information pane is not visible in file properties. However, when the title displayed in Okular is the same as in the information panel, Okular properties displays the file path + file name and the title. In general it seems that for some documents Okular thinks there is no title but the information pane does find a title. And for some files, the title shown in Okular (i.e. not the file name) is there but different from what is shown in the information panel. This is a not as common, however.

Okay. Unfortunately i'm not sure where this metadata comes from - I wasn't able to find anything in terms of PDF titles when viewing the files using Okular or Dolphin on my system.

I believe a feature request has already been filed concerning the display of filenames vs. titles.

That's fine. Many thanks anyway! It's only a small source of confusion. I appreciate the help, and if there's already a feature request all is well.
