First, I have to say I'm very new to KDE. I've been using Linux full-time for six years, and I've tried innumerable distros: Ubuntu, Fedora, Crunchbang, Arch, and others, and many DEs. I'd never tried Kubuntu, and I'm ridiculously impressed with KDE. I hate the default look, but the level of customizability, the fact that everything works OOTB, and the fact that I don't have to download anything (KDE includes the functionality of all the apps I used to download for other distros) has left me with, for the first time in years, the perfect desktop. I'm officially a converted KDE evangelist.
One small but maddening problem is bluetooth. To be fair, this is an issue I've had in all Ubuntu-based distros lately, but it's worse in Kubuntu. In most other distros, I have problems solely with A2DP. That is, I can easily connect my bluetooth headphones, but I can't get it to default to and/or connect to the A2DP profile after audio sink is established. In Kubuntu, the problem is worse. I can connect, but I can't even get the headphones to show up in the multimedia settings under music (or any other) playback. If it does, it's greyed out and I can't select it. In short, I can't play anything through the bluetooth headset. It simply doesn't work. There are apparently many known problems with bluetooth in Ubuntu 14.04 (I'm running Kubuntu 14.04). 14.10 fixes most of these problems. I'm hoping *not* to upgrade, though. I'd like to stay on the LTS, and I'd hate to have to upgrade just to fix bluetooth. I'm hoping some kind soul can help me troubleshoot the issue and try to come up with a solution. I'm not sure where to start, or what logs I can provide to help. To anyone who takes the time, thanks in advance. Edit: I should mention that I'm running Kubuntu 14.04 on an Asus Zenbook Prime (UX31A). |

First thing we need to check here - is your system using Pulseaudio?
If so, after connecting your Bluetooth headset open System Settings > Multimedia > Phonon and switch to the "Audio Hardware Setup" tab. From the "Sound Card" drop down, can you select your Bluetooth headset? If you can, select it, then check the device profile to make sure it is correct.

Could you give us some more information on which Bluetooth headset is is that you're having issues with? This may be an issue based on the version of Bluetooth that your bluetooth headset is running (see more information about bluetooth headset versions here). I think I might be able to help you solve the issue. |
