I am having a challenge with Konqueror as a file manager. I am using it instead of Dolphin for Konqueror can save multiple tabs open as a session.

The challenge is whenever I click to open a sub-directory in the main window or sidebar directory tree that action opens the sub-directory in Dolphin. Under Settings > Configure Konqueror > File management I have unchecked 'Open folders in separate windows'.

Is there some other setting necessary perhaps at the KDE system settings level that has to be set for this feature to work?

You can set the default file manager in System Settings->Default Applications.

Although Konqueror should just open a subfolder in the same window normally anyway, not externally in the default file manager.
So have a look in "File Associations" and check that "Show file in embedded viewer" is set for "inode", and that this is not overwritten in the "Embedding" settings for "inode/directory".

Btw, Konqueror's 'Open folders in separate windows' setting never had any effect at all in KDE4 IIRC...

Thanks! Show file in embedded viewer did the trick. I never noticed that tab before and did not change it on my own. It was on Use settings for 'inode' group. How it got there I will never know.

Great! :)

That's actually the default.

The question now is what the settings for the 'inode' group are, they should be "Show file in embedded viewer" and that's what they are here (I never changed them).
Then "Use settings for 'inode' group" for inode/directory should be OK too.
