Issue:
Unable to get Kate to not automatically show "Mini Map" and "Folding Markers" every time Kate starts.

Details:
1. View -> Borders -> Show Scrollbar Mini Map UNCHECKED.
2. View -> Cold Folding -> Show Folding Markers UNCHECKED.
3. Kate files saved.
4. Kate files closed.
5. Kate files opened.
6. Mini Map and Folding Markers still appear.

Note: Files are text files, e.g. whatever.txt

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance and have a great day!

You might check the session settings under Settings -> Configure Kate -> Application -> Sessions. It may be that the session it keeps bringing up each time has those enabled and is not updating the session to disabling them when you close out.

Thanks for quick reply, airdrik. I will do that when I use sessions. Right now I'm just starting to use Kate on Kubuntu and I normally don't use sessions at all.

After some searches, it seems that the solution that seems best for my own Kate purposes (at least in the beginning while learning the ropes) was found in a post that suggested changing the relevant katerc settings (switching TRUE/FALSE on a few items).

I tired that and tested it. It worked so far but time will tell.

Have a great day!

If you aren't getting into many of Kate's features, you might try out Kate's little brother Kwrite which is pretty much just the text editor without the plugins, sessions or other more advanced functionality. It still provides a pretty good set of functionality including syntax highlighting, completion suggestions, find & replace, etc. Then later on after you are comfortable with Kwrite's functionality and want to make use of Kate's extended feature set you can switch (or if like me you find Kwrite to be more than sufficient for your needs you can just stick with Kwrite)
