i attempted to install calibre using synaptic and was informed that i i have held broken packages. i've attempted everything in the below linked thread and the issue is still there. please any other ideas on rectifying this would be great. as for calibre i found a 1 line command on their site for installing it, and it worked perfectly. thanks

What distro, and version? Being a general KDE forum, we can't tell what you are running
What were the specific error messages you are seeing? I am going to guess that you run Neon. If you search here the forums here for Calibre, you will find that Neon includes newer Qt libraries than Ubuntu does, so there are a small number of applications that won't install as they are packaged to require that older Qt. The packages or binaries for these programs grabbed directly from their websites are not built requiring the specific Qt that Ubuntu uses, so they work on systems with newer version in Neon. it also gets you a much newer release of Calibre, as well.

kde neon 5.15. calibre isn't the issue. i got it installed without issue with the one command. i believe the issue has to do with bacula, which i've since completely removed. i'll leave the thread as is for now in case the issue isn't fixed yet. can't justify trying to install something to see if the issue is or isn't fixed, cause there isn't anything i can think to add to the system at this time.

if the problem is not fixed, do include the exact error messages you get, which will help greatly in pinpointing the problem, and the resolution.
Preferably, the command line output of the the errors you get when running
This will give the most information to work with. Calibre installed for you just fine as the way you got it directly from them, you completely bypassed the native packaging system. There is of course nothing wrong with this

^^^ The smoking gun. You have added an xUbuntu 16.04 repository that only has osmc-installer package in it. I don't know what osmc-installer is or what it does but since 16.04 is not getting any updates anymore I suggest you uninstall it and delete the repository. Like this...
Then you can try to update again with...
If you need that package, I suggest you find a more up-to-date repository...[/QUOTE]
