I think I read somewhere sometime about Vim being put into Kate. Where can I learn more about this, what is the progress on this, when can we expect something to play with, and to what extent is this "merge" being made?
I cannot contain my excitement

AFAIK this is never being progress.
In the old time there has been a project 'KVim' who tried to work with vim to provide KDE kpart support for vim. However the project is dead and the developers went for a new vi-clone: yzis. yzis is a complete re-write and it supports kpart and it has co-operation with the project "vi-mode for kate", both of them has nothing to do with vim |

Yeah, the Vi Input Mode started off as a Google SoC project, and was later merged into trunk/.
But as interesting as this project is, if I can't remap the commands, I probably won't use it. If you've seen my sig, you know that I use a Colemak keyboard, which doesn't work very well with a standard Vi configuration. Currently, I am using Colemak.vim to help prevent this problem, but it doesn't seem that Kate will be able to read this Vim configuration.
Type Colemak!

Ah, so It's up in KDE 4.2? When will 4.2 be ready? Or will I have to get the -svn to get it?

KDE 4.2 will be released January 27th. Until then you will have to use svn compiles, or those with binary-package'd distros will have to use the snapshots their distro provides.
