Interestingly enough, I'm finding this happening from time to time with various applications (notably Firefox and Amarok).
It's only started happening in the last week or so, since I installed KDE4.2. But I'm not certain whether or not it's a 4.2 issue, as that was when I gave up on KDM and started using Compiz again. If you're not using Compiz, that would seem to confirm it as a KDE4.2 issue. In fact, thinking about it, I think Firefox and Amarok both use Gtk, so it might be an issue with Gtk styles in 4.2, perhaps? I do find that it comes and goes, so if I dismiss the dialogue when it appears like your screenshot, it quite often comes back right when I re-open it. |

mmm amarok it's qt, not gtk....
But Eureka! Which amarok have you got? 1.4 or 2? Because, I'm using gtk-qt3-engine (Default in suse 11.1) and if you have got amarok 1.4 (qt3) probably the problem is here, but i don't know really... |

OOPS! Brain death struck. I actually meant Audacity, not Amarok.:-O I think my mind started working towards an audio application starting with "A" and didn't get past Amarok. As a penance, I will now go and use Gnome for a week ![]() |

That doesn't look like KWin. I would say Compiz is not working correctly inside a KDE environment.

I do not know if Styles can manipulate windows. If they can, then try another style, and see if it is also affected.
