After upgrading to KDE 4.2 on both my machines I can no longer open my wallets on either machine. I get an error that just says the wallet couldn't be opened, without ever getting a login box. I can open the default (empty) wallets however.

I am not sure, but it is possible that Wallets from KDE 3 are incompatible with KDE 4. If these were wallets from a previous KDE 4 version, then I would consider this a regression ( I had no problems however ).

The wallets both worked fine in KDE 4.1. Here's what's happening, if I try to open the wallet by clicking on it in wallet manager I get the error. However I made a link to the wallet data file and if I click the link I get a password box and the wallet opens. But when I close the window the wallet closes again, even though I have them set to stay open until manually closed.
Also in wallet manager I can right click the wallet and choose change password and it gives me a password box. Strange behavior, but at least I can get it open. Mike |

Most interesting. When you open it next time use the Export as XML feature to save your data. Then create a new Wallet and import your data.

I tried that, but everything on the wallet's file menu is grayed out except delete folder and quit. Another interesting thing; when I go to connect to my other computer using fish protocol a password box pops up for my wallet, and after entering the password it lets me connect, so it's working automatically for network connections. It does the same when my synchronizing app accesses it.
This is happening the same way on both my computers since I updated them to KDE 4.2. There seems to be something wrong with the wallet manager rather than the wallet itself, as clicking the link I made also opens a password box, then opens the wallet. Anyway for now it's working when an app accesses it, and I can open it with the link if I need to retrieve a password. I'll see what happens after the next update. Mike |
