i am using Kubuntu 8.10 with KDE 4.
i have not been able to execute any .bin files. i have checked off the box in properties to make them executable, but when i double-click i am just given the "open with" dialog. Tried "run in terminal" but that didnt work. I have done all this stuff before in Ubuntu with no problem. Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

I found that I was able to run the BINS by pressing Alt+F2 and typing in the full path of the file...
I guess that kinda solves it, but is there anything I can do to make it work with a double-click? |

You can add a file association that will use Bash to execute them, which is why entering it in via Alt + F2 ( KRunner ) worked.
System Settings > Advanced > File Associations. Click add, changing "Type" to "application", and name to "bin-executable". Then find the newly added item under "Known types" and select it. Add the filename pattern "*.bin", add a good description, then add the application handler "bash" and apply it.

thanks guys. i couldn't get the file association to work properly, but i was able to drag it into konsole and thats good enough. most of the bins i use are installers, so it's not a major problem to drag then into konsole one time
