hi there,

we've set up successfull an debian lenny server with LTSP + KDE 4.2
Our Thin Clients connect via PXE to the Server.

Now we have a problem:

all Users of the Group XYZ should have an restricted KDE and a standard desktop

how can i do this ?

i've tried the Kiosktool - but i think this only works with KDE 3 !?

i hope somebody can help me..

sorry for my english

You can configure your restricted desktop how it needs to be, then edit the configuration files so that the needed configuration entries end with [$i] so they are immutable. Then copy them to KDE's global configuration directory.

Example: This entry
Code: Select all
[Main]
ActiveView=icon_mode

Would become
Code: Select all
[Main]
ActiveView[$i]=icon_mode

You will need to start all the applications you wish to restrict in turn, configure them, make the relevant entries immutable in ~/.kde/share/config/ then they can be copied to /etc/kde/.

At this time documentation is not available on all the options, you would have to trawl the application source code directly.

A good starting point is this page: http://techbase.kde.org/SysAdmin

A lot of the details of Kiosk and user profiles is also described here: http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/KDE/kdelibs ... rev=444344

Most Kiosk related things are still true for KDE4, but some file names might have been changed.

Cheers,
