Two days ago I updated from KDE 3.5.10 to KDE 4.2 in Debian Unstable. I have a multimedia keyboard with extra keys that I configured with xbindkeys and keytouch to do specific actions. But since the update I get no reaction from xbindkeys and keytouch. It seems that KDE4's option to manage keyboard shortcuts dominates them and I did not find a way to turn it completely off. Can you help me about it?

Do you have a script that applies these xbindkeys settings? If so, ensure that it is located at ~/.kde4/env instead of ~/.kde/env.

Nope, xbindkeys is using ~/.xbindkeysrc
It has nothing in common with ~/.kde or ~/.kde4

You may need to add a script to call xbindkeys to load its configuration. I do not know if KDE 4 automatically calls it.KDE 4 will automatically run scripts that are executable in ~/.kde4/Autostart

Just to double check: is xbindkeys started?

![]() These are the things I first checked, a lot earlier before posting here. Yes, xbindkeys is autolaunched from an icon in ~/.kde4/Autostart, together with other programs that start on logon. Yes it is running, as keytouch too. |

If you have configured KDE to set your keyboard layout, you will need to ensure that XBindKeys is launched after it sets the keyboard layout ( or configure KDE to not set the layout )

I never use KDE's keyboard layout, I always disable it. First thing when installing KDE. I configure my keyboard layouts in xorg.conf, and I use kkbswitch only to show me country's flags. I checked, keyboard layout is disabled.[hr]

Hmmm, I found the solution, I think...
Look at this two lines: ![]() Line 1 is how xbindkeys was detecting the key before moving to KDE4, line 2 is after. This way xbindkeys is working. I will have to remap all my keyboard shortcuts... Maybe when I was updating KDE, something in xorg was updated too, I don't know...
