I have noticed there is a bug in Ark when I extract certain zip files. It seems to occur when the files are not contained within a folder inside the archive although I'm not sure it does this for every zip file that has files without a subfolder.
When I select "Extract archive here, autodetect subfolder" the archive is extracted to a new folder. However, all the files in that folder have the folder path appended to the beginning of the filename. For example, a zip file named "Example" contains these files, "file1.txt" file2.txt". When it is unarchived the files are named "Example/file1.txt" and "Example/file2.txt". Obviously, the files are not usable and if there are a lot of files contained in a archive, it is a pain to have to rename them all. If I extract the same zip file in a Gnome based distro, all of the files are named properly. |

Please file a bug at bugs.kde.org if one does not already exist. Please test with the most recent version of KDE as you can ( 4.3 would be best )

Ark maintainer here. What you are describing is actually a feature; when you select autodetect subfolder it will see if it is an archive that has one folder or not. people are usually interested in keeping things in one folder, so that is why this feature exists.
if you do not want to rename all the files because of this feature, then don't use the autodetect subfolder option, it's that simple. ![]()
