Yzis (vi kpart)

Tue Oct 14, 2008 8:40 pm
Yzis is a vi kpart for KDE. It would be very useful to edit any textbox in KDE, use it inside kate, etc... furthermore scripting in normal vim is a bit painful, since Yzis uses the scripting language Lua it should be easier.

It seems that it is stalled since June in an alpha version, anybody know if it would be finished? Anybody using it already?

There has been some activity since then. The last addition to the code was back in August.

I would also like this project to take off. A Vi(m)-like editor embedded inside Kate would be just amazing.

See this also: http://www.commit-digest.org/issues/2008-05-04/
It has some information about another project with similar objectives.
EDIT: And here's the code: http://websvn.kde.org/branches/kate/vi_input_mode/

IIRC, it's been merged to trunk now, for 4.2.

Yep, it will bi in 4.2. And as of now it works rather nice :)

One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. "Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" was his response. "I don't know", Alice answered. "Then", said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

So, I'll have to test ! Kate + vi mode could be really cool to use :)

Yep, it is :) Of course it has some glitches here and there (as it's the work in progress), but i already write text using it with no problem.

All three modes are implemented (Insert, Normal, Visual+Visual-Line), basic commands are working etc etc :)

Oh, this reminds me of Pida. If you can embed Vim into Kate ... well, goodbye GVim! I give my full support to this!
