Have most apps been ported to Qt?

Fri Aug 21, 2009 11:14 pm
Hello. On-again off-again user here :) Let me first say that I absolutely love this project and I believe it will eventually be regarded as the best desktop platform.

Now the question.

The last time I used KDE 4--4.1 I believe--some things like network manager (possibly) and some major apps (KOffice) were not yet ported to Qt 4. I just didn't like it. With the release of KDE 4.3 which small apps such as the network manager and major applications are still missing Qt 4 ports?

As far as I know KOffice is in development. There's a version of KOffice which is ported to Qt 4 and released, but it hans't all possibilities the Qt 3 version had. You are able control Networkmanager through KDE 4. I haven't got problems with missing applications (it's the Linux state).

What I understood with the KOffice project is that it's not yet suitable for public consumption but was released anyways.

My main concern is the aesthetic of the experience.

Keep in mind I'm currently typing this in Windows XP.

Is there any effort underway to port Firefox or Chromium to Qt?

There was one for Firefox, but I think nobody works at it at the moment.
Here's the source: http://hg.mozilla.org/users/vladimir_mo ... mozilla-qt
and as you can see: "last change Fri, 15 Aug 2008 09:31:55 +0300"...
I didn't hear something like this about Chromium.

Some other things that have not been ported (and maybe never will be??):

Quanta
Krec
Knetworkmanager (but it is time KDE and Wicd started to collaborate and make Wicd fully KDE4 integrated)
Kprinter (being worked on I believe)
Basket

There will probably be more, but these are the ones that I know of (and miss to some extent).

I think Networkmanager is integrated in other ways.

is semiported, but have some bugs making it unusable in daily use.

Yes, well, the Plasmoid. But all I hear about it is that it is still in a beta stage, and quite buggy in daily use. I would like to be proven wrong, though.

For Wicd 1.6, a Solid backend is already available. I do not know if the Network Management plasmoid intends on using direct Solid methods however, and a backend is currently not available.

There's a systemsettings module (openSUSE 11.1 KDE 4.3)
