I remember that in KDE 3, I used to be able to eject a cd/dvd mounted by hal by simply pressing the eject button on the drive itself. It would unmount and eject automatically.
In KDE4, once the drive is mounted, I have to go to the device notifier applet and click the eject button. Is there a way to add the KDE3 feature back into KDE4? |

Hm, as far as I know that feature has been available in KDE4 from the start. At least I have never had any problems just hitting eject to get the CD out, and if I remember correctly the first KDE4 version I used full-time was 4.0.1.
The only time it refuses to work is when something has a lock on a file or directory on the CD, and when that has happened the eject in "Device notifier" or dolphin doesn't work either.

Ok, weird... I guess this could be a problem with Slackware 13, since this was working in Slackware 12.2.

This failure is likely due to HAL permissions.

Ya, I suspected this might be... Do you think you could point me in the right direction? I poked around in /usr/share/hal and /etc/hal but found no inspiration. ![]() |

Unfortunately I was unable to find any information regarding this through some searching. Your distributions support methods may be able to point you in a better direction towards the exact cause.
One last thing, make sure that the HAL Solid backend is selected in System Settings > Advanced > Hardware.

hmm...
power management backend: HAL-Power network man backend: Fake Net Bluetooth Man Backend: BlueZ That's all I have for those settings. Thanks |

Those are valid. This means that the issue lays below KDE, likely in HAL or group membership issues causing permission to be denied.

Seems like its fixed in 4.3.1
The solib auto-eject service seems to be the solution. Is there anyway to get this service for kde 4.2.4? Thanks |

I would recommend simply upgrading to KDE 4.3.1 as it will contain many additional fixes.
