I ve clicked on save as, but as the box was checked , i am not able any more to choose "open" . I ve searched in the folder .kde4 to find a file that i can restore the initial setting but i cant found it. Anyone know how to do it ?

Open System Settings > Advanced > File Associations. Select the mime type application/pdf. Change to the embedding tab. Tick "Ask whether to save to disk instead". Then apply.

Damn, unfortunately I do not know which configuration file stores the setting you are after.

I think I've found the file:
~/.kde4/share/config/filetypesrc (It could be that you have to change .kde4 to .kde) Open the file with KWrite or any other text editor. Now scroll to the end. For me the end look like this:
If I remove the line askSaveapplication/metalink+xml=true I get the question box for this mimetype again. Your one will probably be something with pdf in it. Remove the line and try to download the file. I hope it helps you, Jan ![]() |

Yes it works , thanks
![]() in that file i have only this list : [EmbedSettings] embed-application/annodex=true embed-application/asx=true embed-application/futuresplash=true embed-application/pdf=true embed-application/vlc=true embed-application/vnd.adobe.xdp+xml=true embed-application/vnd.adobe.xfd+xml=true embed-application/vnd.adobe.xfdf=true embed-application/vnd.fdf=true embed-application/vnd.ms-powerpoint=false embed-application/x-java-bean=true ..... ... ... I deleted this one : embed-application/pdf=true and now it asks for the action *in systemsettings , file associations, nothing was changed, even now with this setting |

Great
![]() Didn't think of embedding ![]() But if it works that doesn't matter ![]() Could you mark the topic as solved, please? (press the green hook on the post which solved your problem). Thanks EDIT: If nothing was changed in systemsettings, maybe you want to report a bug at http://bugs.kde.org (or search for a one which already exists)? ![]() |

bcooksley:
I took a file, downloaded it and changed the settings. Then I let find and grep do a search for the file type through the config directory. Then I looked for the right file in the search results. ![]() |

'kcmshell4 filetypes' > .. > Embedding, saves the changes in filetypesrc.
What happens is if you set it to "show in embedded viewer" then you don't get asked if you want to save to disk or not. If you explicitly set it to "show in separate viewer" (or leave it set to "use settings for application group" which defaults to show in separate viewer anyway) you get that pop-up asking whether to save it or open it with the default application. |
