kdm xsession errors

Tue Nov 24, 2009 11:40 pm
I am using Ubuntu 9.10 and installed to kubuntu-desktop package so I could choose between Gnome or KDE. When using gdm, I can start both with no problem. If I use kdm, though, neither will start. After typing my username and password, I get a black and white X error message that says "Xsession: unsupported number of arguments (2)". I even tried reinstalling Kubuntu 9.10 from CD and am still having this issue. I've installed other versions of Linux previously (Arch and older versions of Kubuntu and Ubuntu) while keeping my home directory, so I suspect there's a configuration file that's causing this. I have no ~/.xinitrc or ~/.xsession (although one is created when I try to log in). I'm not sure where else to look.

Please open the file "/etc/X11/Xsession.d/20x11-common_process-args" and add the following to it:
Code: Select all
echo $@

And post the output of it here.
