Just wondered, what happened to the menu item Go>Media...
If i were to give openSuSE/KDE to my Mother, Sister, Niece, Nephew or an Employee where is the 'CD'? Yes, I know,,, Root>Media>(maybe it's here, maybe it's not).... Just wondering. Landis. ЛандисРеед.ком |

In Dolphin, which is the default file manager, you have the CD listed in the sidebar.
You also have the CD in the K-menu. You also have the CD in the Device Notifier. Konqueror is primarily a web browser now, no longer the hybrid between everything (file manager, web browser, document viewer, etc) it used to be. So when you give OpenSUSE to regular users, and they ask where is the CD, you should point them to Dolphin (called simply File Manager in the menu).

The Media KIO slave was removed during the port from KDE 3 to KDE 4 because its was unmaintained, and it didn't use Solid.

Thank you for your replies.
That sucks! I totally dislike Dolphin... Konqueror seems much more a 'file manager' than the candy land looking Dolphin. Dolphin makes me think of a media player skinned by a teenager. Not business like at all.... Not to mention the drag 'n drop function is garbage! The 'side bars', 'folders' yuck! The horizontal scroll does Not work in the folders list. If you have a directory tree deeper than 2 levels, you can not scroll right to see the names of the directories. Not good. I have dual 21" CRT's and Dolphin maximized still no good, because as soon as I 'window' it (reduce to say a quarter of the screen) the sections of Dolphin become to small to be useful and this is because of the fluffy 'candy land' 'skin'. Is there, that you know of, a cleaner, smaller more 'business like' looking 'skin' out there? Is it even 'skinable'?
Guess I should start getting used to it eh. It sounds like konqueror is to be fazed out just like another favorite of mine, Quanta plus. With that, I've gotten Very Fond of kwrite for my coding. oh well.. Thanks again, Спасибо, Landis. |
