Hi,
I guess my orthography is at least sufficient and it hurts my eyes seeing all this red, when I write a language not English or set in the settings. Is there a possibility to turn spell checking off (in kmail, in konqueror, wherever)? Workarounds like fake-executable dictionary-binaries are welcome, too. Cheers, Malte |

I would say this is a bug, for you should be able to turn any feature off ( if you don't want it ). They seemed to have forgotten about it when making the UI.
however you can manually edit it. open the file ~/.kde4/share/config/sonnetrc Change the line: backgroundCheckerEnabled=true to false. You may need to restart applications / logout for it to take effect.

Do you have any idea why there is no spellcheck in kate or kwrite where it would be most useful? Even if I leave it on "true" nothing happens. Thanks, david

I have no idea. however it could be that Kate / Kwrite was never written to take advantage of Sonnet, which konqueror obviously has.

Thanks, seems like. Maybe it can be made available as plugin. However, it is a bit sad for a text editor.

Thanks alot. Will try when back at my own PC.
I think I read something about that on the planet. So I guess with 4.2? Anyways: Thanks for the fast answers, KDE rocks! |

OK. I should have waited with replying... There is no sonnetrc. Actually there is no sonnet to be found anywhere. Maybe now is the time to give more version information: KDE 4.1.2 from the debian-experimental-build. I can choose between gazillion types of English and Hebrew and Turkish (why Hebrew and Turkish?). DUDE! Before I was going to post this message I tought 'Maybe creating a sonnetrc will do it...', so I did by first 'touch sonnetc' (in the share/config-dir) and then opening it... and there was already text in it! Am I going mental or what? So I gonna edit it like you described and will test results through posting another one...[hr] Sorry, still snaking-while-typing ![]()

Mdik says he has English Hebrew and Turkish. I also have Hebrew Turkish and Italian (why these are my default options I haven't a clue). I have no English and can't seem to find a way to change these defaults. I also tried a touch sonnetc but I didn't get any info in the blank file, maybe I'm going mental as well...:=)

Did you really mean sonnetc? In case, the file should be named sonnetrc |

Let me refresh this topic. I am sick of obligatory spellchecking. I write mostly in Belarusian, and sonnet annoyingly underlines my every word. But, even if there would be a Belarusian dictionary - I simply don't need it. And I suspect that delays when I type (in KMail's Composer, for example) is caused by sonnet.
I tried the solution mentioned above, but with no success. There was no sonnetrc file in my system. I created it (in ~/.kde4/share/config/) and put the following line in it: backgroundCheckerEnabled=false No result. ![]() Any advice? |

You should be able to use the System Settings > Regional & Language > Spell checking to disable it.

Thank you for reply!
Starting from which version of KDE4 disabling is available? |

Unfortunately, while I can seem to remember an option, I cannot locate it.
Is you sonnetrc file layouted as follows? This format is required for it to function.
