I can't find the option for it. According to the docs: http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/kdesdk/ka ... t-overview
but this isn't the case. The horizontal scroll is displayed even when text doesn't exceed the screen width, or when dynamic word wrap is enabled. They are especially a waste of space in vi mode with a tiling WM (so I rarely reach for the mouse) and with the statusbar enabled (so you can see where you are anyway). Konsole for instance has an option to disable scrollbars in it's profiles which is useful when using the scrollback of gnu screen or tmux. Edit: horizontal scroll hides correctly with dynamic word wrap.

That is a bug in Kate if it doesn't do what the documentation describes, please file a bug at bugs.kde.org.

Not in 3.3.5; only the vertical scrollbar is present all the time.

Here (4.4.1) enabling dynamic word wrap hides the horizontal scrollbar. I don't get why it's shown for the first case (text not exceeding textbox size) however, seems like a bug to me.

Bug is here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=231475
My mistake, I must have been doing something goofy. Horizontal scroll does in fact hide with dynamic word wrap on 4.5 svn.
