Running KDE

I am a dummy. I have downloaded KDE 4.4.1. Exactly how can I install. I have rebooted but that did nothing.

What do you use at the moment, and how did you try to install it? If you use Kubuntu 9.10, you can install it from the Kubuntu Backports PPA:
