Energy Profiles don't have any effect

Hi,

I'm currently using KDE on my netbook and I want to diable the (beautiful) dekstop effects when I'm on battery to save some energy - I hope this has a signigficant effect.

I adjusted the profile to disable the desktop effects when on powersave and additional to lower the brighntess.

The problem: this doesn't have any effect. When coming back from hibernate, the desktop effects are activated and the brightness is very high although it says it is on "powersave".

Thanks in advance!

Which version of KDE are you using? If you are using KDE 4.2 or lower, upgrading to 4.4.2 is strongly recommended.

Sorry, forgotten to say I'm using 4.4.2

I did some further testing and it seems that the problem only occurs, when the AC status changes during hibernate (pluging in or our the AC-Adapter).

This is due to HAL not informing KDE upon resume that the previous state has changed. Unfortunately as far as I am aware, HAL is deprecated, with all future development focused on u*, in this case upower.

Thanks to clarify this.

So, we have to wait until KDE switches to upower?

Most likely yes, unless the bug is fixed at the HAL level. Note that this assumes that upower doesn't have the same bug.

Just want to bring up my own thread.

The profiles still doesn't work under 4.6

This doesn't only effects when I'm coming back from hibernate but also when I boot my machine.

The notebook starts without a plugged AC adapter but the desktop effects are active altough I disabled them in the profile.
