In KDE you can make a "link" type .desktop file that points to a particular directory or file. However, by default this uses absolute pathnames. I am trying to set up a link on a fat32 removable device, so I want to set it up using a relative path so it will work on an KDE computer it is plugged into no matter where the device is mounted. I really just want the folder to point to a folder of the same name one directory higher in the file structure. However, the normal ".." notation does not work. Does anyone know how I can set up a .desktop file whose url uses relative paths instead of absolute paths?

As far as I am aware this isn't possible, you may wish to ask in #kde-devel though. The freedesktop.org Desktop File specification doesn't seem to mention any special replacement characters which may make this possible either.
