Not sure if this the correct place to post this but if it is not I am sure someone will tell me (I have found people in all these forums to be very nice and helpful)
I recently installed Debian Squeeze on my DELL Vostro 1500. I did not see an option during the install to install using the KDE desktop environment so I got GNOME. Now I have installed kdm and during startup I see it start kde but the desktop looks the same as when I was using GNOME. How do I get the desktop to look like it does on my Debian Lenny install that was installed using the kde desktop environment? oh btw my kdm version is 4:4.3.4-3 Thanks in advance |

Have you installed the "kdebase-workspace" package?
Also, try right clicking near the bottom where it says "Sessions" and make sure "KDE" is selected.

I did not have kdebase-desktop installed so I installed it. Now the pointer icons are different but the desktop is still the same. Do I have to uninstall gnome?
I do not see anyplace on the screen that is marked "sessions". I also did a Ctrl+Alt+f1 and found that KDM is starting. one of the last statements is "Starting K Display Manager: kdm" Could it be something in my /home/raygo75 directories that is picking the gnome desktop instead of the kde desktop? |

I found the session icon, it is on the login screen. I checked kde and just like magic it is fixed.
Thank you. |
