Hi all,

I am experimenting a wierd problem and wanna know if anybody else can reproduce it. Kwin effects are getting choppier when amarok is running. For example, the minimize effect does only 1 or 2 redraws, sliding desktops is extremely choppy. This does not happens if only 1 or 2 apps are running (other than amarok). I can reproduce it in both opensuse 11.3 and kubuntu 10.4. with kde 4.4.3/4 or 4.5b. both with the latest nvidia drivers (256.35). as info: I have a nvidia gt120 which should be capable of handling these effects.

As an added bonus, with compiz in kubuntu the choppiness is gone, but in opensuse is worst as with kwin.

I have the same issue, kubuntu 10.04 and nvidia GeForce 9600M GT with 195.36.24 drivers. I don't know if it's directly related to amarok or with a special function that amarok uses (maybe other applications are able to "wake up" this bug?)
My workaround is (almost always works) to switch to console (ctrl+alt+F1) then come back to graphic enviroment (ctrl+alt+F7). A "logout > restart X server (nvidia module reload)> login" always resolve.

UPDATE: from this morning I'm using KDE 4.5 RC1 (4.4.90) and seems that this problem's gone to heaven!
