Hi everyone,
I just updated my openSUSE 11.3 installation from KDE 4.4 to 4.5. (from the factory repository). But I've got a huge problem.. Once I try to log in via KDM, I just get an "Could not start ksmserver, check your installation" error.

If I do xinit ksmserver -- :1 my desktop boots up just fine though, without any errors (plasma, kwin, etc work fine, too)... my file permissions are correct as well.

Contents of .xsession-errors:
Code: Select all
/etc/X11/xim: Checking whether an input method should be started.
/usr/bin/manpath: can't set the locale; make sure $LC_* and $LANG are correct
sourcing /etc/sysconfig/language to get the value of INPUT_METHOD
INPUT_METHOD is not set or empty (no user selected input method).
Trying to start a default input method for the locale de_DE.UTF-8 ...

Dummy input method "none" (do not use any fancy input method by default)

I'm not sure what other info could be needed, but if there's any missing information here, just ask. I appreciate any advice on this issue :)

Try removing the contents of /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER, /tmp/ksocket-$USER and /tmp/kde-$USER outside KDE.

Nope, didn't help either :/

EDIT:
Alright, seems like I'm still using some packages from the stable repo... I'll update these as well and tell you if that worked.

Does a new user work?

nevermind, completely removing all KDE packages and reinstalling them from the factory repo solved my problem.
