When I insert a DVD (tried 2 so far) I have 2 icons and sometimes 4 in device notifier and dolphin.
When I check 'mount' and look in /media indeed it has made/mounted several copies named title title_1 etc. Any ideas? |

Can you please attach a screenshot of this? You will need to use an external site such as imagebin for this.

Thanks. Everything looks fine... this duplication shouldn't be occurring.
The output of this command?
If this returns more than one entry with a disc in your optical drive, then you need to check HAL. If it returns a single entry, you have found a device notifier bug it seems.

This is kde 4.4.3 by the way. I wonder is it possible to upgrade the device notifier to the latest version without having to upgrade the rest of kde?

Technically, it may be possible. You will need to download and compile kdebase/workspace then install just the device notifier. Not sure if it will let you do that very easily though.

I don't think that is a very good idea. The device notifier may depend on changes elsewhere. Further, it if it also happening in Dolphin then replacing the device notifier likely won't change anything, the problem is likely lower-level.
