laptop brightness hotkeys

Tue Aug 24, 2010 5:47 pm
i cannot make the brightness hotkeys work on my laptop (sony vaio sr11m)

i receive the keys' keycodes when using showkey or acpi_listen, but i don't know how to associate events to them.

in the system settings window -> keyboard settings -> global keyboard shortcuts i cannot find the right kde component for managing those keys

shouldn't powerdevil do this?

how can i configure kde to react to thos keys?

thanks

These controls can be found under "KDE Daemon" in KDE Trunk. They may be located under "PowerDevil" or "Power Management" on your system if they are not under "KDE Daemon".

hi,
you are talking about system settings -> keyboard & mouse -> global keyboard shortcuts, right?

I cannot find it anywhere. Selecting KDE Daemon i only have shortcuts for "switch display" and nothing else.
The other kde components i can select from there are:
* kmix
* kwin
* plasma workspace
* run command interface
* amarok
* juk
* klipper
* kopete
* kxkb
* lancelot

Nothing about powerdevil or power managemen in general

I'm using kde version 4.4.4 under debian.

What's wrong? Maybe some package is not installed? However i have powerdevil icon and everything works good with it.

many thanks

Correct. Hot keys for brightness control may have been added in 4.5....
