Hello,
I have the scanner HP Scanjet 2400 installed on a machine with K/Ubuntu 10.10 and I use the software Simple Scan to scan image. Problem: The image scanned by this scanner comes with a inversion of colors (what was supposed to be orange is blue ; the white sheet of paper that I've put inside it was not in the blank color when I scanned it too)... My Question: Is this a configuration problem (I did not configured this scanner at any way, so it's working by the Ubuntu drivers itself without my intervention)? Is there any way to solve it? Thanks for your attention, André M. |

Two questions:
Has it worked before in Linux? Ubuntu or otheriwse? I have no experience with that particular scanner but it could be a driver problem. Have you tried another scanning program like xsane (okay, the options in that one can be bewildering I admit) or skanlite?

Hello Kryten2X4B,
No, I haven't tested another driver or software because I'm a newbie on Linux platform and therefore I don't know how to deal well with it yet ![]() How can I test another driver or software inside it? PS: I searched the HP official site and it doesn't give me any driver for Linux OS and neither does Intel... I only found Linux OS drivers in NVIDIA and ATI official websites... Thanks for your attention, André M. |

You would be better looking for hplip in the Kubuntu repositories. This comes with everything you need to use your HP scanner. [It may also install hpijs as a dependency].

Hello john_hudson,
I have installed on my PC (I saw this on the Synaptic Package Manager) the "hplip" and "hpijs"... Is this problem a configuration problem, software problem? I'll test the Kryten2X4B's software recommendation to see if this problem stops (I hope this happens because I love Linux and I don't want to return to Windows anymore)... Thanks for your attention and help, André M. |

Hello,
I tried the both programs that Kryten2X4B have recommended and the result was the same (the color was wrong and the scanner progress stopped when it reached 25% of the sheet of paper)... I think this is a driver problem like Kryten2X4B has mentioned... Therefore I'm sending it to the SANE project to check it out and see how can I fix it... The link for this bug report is https://alioth.debian.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=312816&group_id=30186&atid=410366 PS: As soon as I got an answer I'll post it into this topic and mark it as SOLVED... I'd like to do an special thanks to Kryten2X4B and john_hudson for their try to help us in this problem and with others that can exist, Thanks for your attention, André M. |

Considering that you now have tried three different programs, I personally would think that's a pretty safe bet. One thing I forgot to mention that you could try: VueScan. It's pay-for software but a trial is available (the scans are watermarked though, but should be enough to see if it works better and if it's worth the asking price for you). I've never had a need to use it myself but I've heard nothing but praise for it of the people I know that are using it (either out of preference or of need). You can download it from http://www.hamrick.com/

I just saw the following mini-howto that describes how to upgrade your SANE-drivers in (K)Ubuntu. It doesn't necessarily mean your scanner would work any better but may be worth a shot. http://bobthegnome.blogspot.com/2010/11 ... buntu.html

Though you say you have installed hplip, have you tried hplip's built in scanner and diagnostic facilities?

Hello john_hudson,
No... I don't know how to do it because I've went to the HP official website and there they say I can't use it for scanners... Is there any way to make it work with it? PS: By the way, I tried the VueScan and the new SANE drivers that Kryten2X4B has recommended, but it didn't solved my problem... Thanks for your help, André M. |
