Hello.
I have a laptop that the acpi method off setting the brightness doesn't work. So, pressing the key combination (I guess KDE does something like echo $value > /sys/class/.../brightness ) doesn't do anything. It only shows a value bar (when acpi_backlight=vendor is enabled). The only way to change the brightness is via pciset. The command must be executed with root privileges. Can I configure KDE to execute it with the existing key combination? It might is trivial, but I can't find it. |

You should be able to create a new shortcut for it in System Settings -> Shortcuts and Gestures -> Custom Shortcuts. Click on Edit -> New -> Global Shortcut -> Command/URL and enter the shortcut under the Trigger tab. You'll (most likely) see a dialog warning that the key already is assigned to a global shortcut, choose Reassign. Finally write the command you want to run under Action.
If you ever want to change it back to how it used to be, go to Global Keyboard Shortcuts -> KDE component: KDE Daemon -> change shortcut for Decrease Screen Brightness and Increase Screen Brightness. In order to run the command as a normal user, you can probably do something like this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Al ... o_Shutdown

Did everything work out? In that case please mark the topic as solved, as described here.
![]() I might do something like this as well since I have the same issue with my Netbook. If anyone else wonders, here are some scripts to change the brightness using setpci: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=74914 https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sa ... Brightness
