Hi everyone.
For some time I've been looking for any information about how to manage startup kde applications and services. I need this to manually manage on startup apps like: kwallet, kmix, knetworkmanager... There is no documentation about technical issues like this (I'm wondering why). Thanks for any reply. Cheers. |

see this post it should explain managing application startup http://www.sharpley.org.uk/node/8
some "services" are controlled in systemsettings -> system admin -> startup & shutdown -> service manager |

Many of those apps allow you to configure if you want the tray icon in the application settings. Some of them you can just quit if you don't want to use them, for example kmix or kwalletmanager. (Quitting kwalletmanager will not shut down the wallet service, only the GUI manager.)
If you restore your session, the session manager will start applications for you, or you can configure a session containing the applications you want to run on startup and have the session manager start that on login. Finally, you can start applications by placing links to their desktop files (or binaries) in the autostart directory (~/.kde4/Autostart usually). There may also be a global Autostart directory, to disable applications ran from there, copy the .desktop files to your local Autostart and add the line "hidden=true". There is also a system-settings module to manage Autostart programs in systemsettings under start and shutdown. |
