Hi.

I have a question about setting the default input method (IM) in US Engish (en_US). Looks like KDE won't let me set it to anything other than "default" or "none."

Background: I installed Japanese from System Settings --> Locales. Once Japanese was installed, I went to "Set System Language," chose "ibus" for English (United States), and kept it as the system language. I did so instead of setting Japanese as the system language, because I did not want the whole OS to be a Japanese OS. I simply wanted to write Japanese when necessary.

However, that setting did not survive a reboot. iBus did not start automatically as it should. I ran "im-switch" and found that ibus was not listed as a selectable IM under en_US . I ended up manually changing the symlink that pointed to "default" so it now points to "ibus." After a restart, iBus came up automatically and I am able to type in Japanese.

So my question is, how should I have gone about it? It's not an urgent matter since it's working now, but I'd like to know the "official" method for this. Or did I take the correct steps that turned out to have a bug? Surely you should be able to set iBus as the default IM for any language, right?

Thoughts and comments would be appreciated.
