Upgraded to Kubuntu 11.04. KDE 4.6.2.
All works well except my windows partition used to load at /media/disk earlier. Now it loads at /media/XXAAOOXX. How do I revert it back to /media/disk? By the way, very impressed with the new additions. So, thanks to all the team who contributed. |

This is because KDE stopped using HAL and moved over to udev. If the naming part is that important to you I suggest you google udev rules

Naming is kind of important because it breaks down a couple of things (at least). I was saving Ktorrent downloaded files on Windows partition. Now, I will need to redirect all these manually. Also, all my bookmarks (Places) in Dolphin that pointed to the directories in that partition are broken. And udev rules is too complicated for a newbie like me. Is there a simpler solution? If not, I would rather go through the pain of redirecting Ktorrent and redoing dolphin places. Lastly, why should changing from HAL to Udev cause change in the name of mount-point? How convenient it would have been if the upgrade had retained the /media/disk link! |

The change is because UDisks handles things differently to HAL. If you give the Partition a name (For FAT based drives - http://lglinux.blogspot.com/2007/11/ren ... fat32.html or use Windows itself for NTFS) it will probably be mounted as /media/<NAME>/ instead.
Therefore naming it "disk" would cause /media/disk/ to be used.

I think you will find that although the name has changed, it will stay consistent. What used to be "my_disk" has turned into "43059DF43583DGFH32" but it will stay that way. Agreed, see my comment above about consistent naming. If I were you I'd observe naming of mount points and if you are satisfied that they don't change then simply redirect. HTH
