Using Kubuntu Natty 64-bit
As the title suggests, after going into sleep mode, when it resumes, there is no screen lock/password dialogue. Once the desktop is loaded there is a notification saying the screen is being locked but it doesn't happen. Also, clicking the button in the lock/logout widget doesn't lock the screen. It is a day old install so not much done to it. I have tried deleting ~/.kde but doesn't help. HP G62 laptop with Intel Core i3 |

found similar post but with no resolution http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1747420 so might be a bug in Natty for existing users (?).
can you create and login as a new user and test |

It works as normal with a different user account and also works if I move my entire home directory.
I will just have to try setting everything up from scratch though from the original install, I didn't copy anything over from my previous install so not sure what could cause this. |

you might try removing your kde cache and tmp folders but you should probably do this from the virtual console outside of your kde session while your kde account is not running

Well I deleted my home directory and copied back my .kde folder along with a few essentials (firefox/thunderbird profiles etc) and for now it seems to be working again.
Though I can't say it's solved things since now my fonts are horrendously messed up. Might be best to just do another fresh install and hope things go smoother. |

might be a bug in Natty, you could wait a day or so and follow http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1747420
re: fonts you could copy ~/.fonts and ~/.fontconfig from you old ~/ to your new, might help |

Copying the fonts files did get my fonts back to normal and screen has been bringing up the dialogue on resume just fine.
Then suddenly, it's stopped again. Other than messing around with dolphin settings I have done NOTHING to account for it ![]() |

what exactly stopped? the ability to lock?

Yes, it just doesn't lock the screen or bring up a password dialogue.
Just goes from sleep straight to the running desktop. |

I have the same problem on Gentoo. Sometimes it's asking password, sometimes not. And when it's not asking — Alt+F2 is not working either.

When it does not prompt, can you check to see if "kscreenlocker" is running?

This occurs also in Mepis 11. On my desktop, I overcame the problem by installing laptop-mode-tools (see http://askubuntu.com/questions/135822/kubuntu-wont-lock) and configuring the power button to initiate suspend-to-RAM (Power Profile / Actions / When Power Button Pressed). When it's pressed, you can hear a KDE notification, then upon resume, the screen has been locked.
Edit: Just to clarify, when the power button is pressed (after configuring as above), it locks the screen before sleeping, but if I use the menu item/widget to initiate sleep mode, it doesn't (it just goes to sleep without activating the screen lock). Either way, sleep itself works correctly. |
