xmodmap : binding keys

Tue Jul 12, 2011 2:39 pm
Sry, if there was an existing post about this, but I could not find one that worked for me.

I have a noppoo choc min (usb). Since I have limited keys, I would like to use key combinations to get home, page up, page dn, etc. I have been trying to use xmodmap to remap the key combinations but to no avail.

I do have "xmodmap /home/user/.xmodmap" in my start up script. I wanted to use the left and right control keys independently as separate modifiers. I was using xkeycaps to write my .xmodmap file. As an example,

shift ctrl mod1
keycode 0x2D = k K NoSymbol Home

clear Shift
clear Lock
clear Control
clear Mod1
clear Mod2
clear Mod3
clear Mod4
clear Mod5

add Shift = Shift_L Shift_R
add Lock = Caps_Lock
add Control = Control_L
add Mod1 = Control_R
add Mod2 = Num_Lock
add Mod4 = Meta_L Meta_R
add Mod5 = Scroll_Lock

This does not seem to work for me. Can anyone explain why? It would help me understand what I am trying to do.
