I hate having kwallet ask me my password each time I log in, just so I can get a gmail plasmoid or whatever.

I _could_ set it to empty, like others have done, since I'm the only one using my desktop. But even though the passwords are encrypted, anyone with access to my logged in session could easily read the passwords by just opening kwallet, so I'd rather not go that route.

I don't mind entering my password in order to _read_ the passwords myself, but it feels like it should be technically possible for kdm to pass on my login password to kwallet on login, so that logging in leads to opening the default wallet (assuming login password equals kwallet password, of course). Does anyone know of a way to make this happen?

(For regular users, comfort trumps security, so I believe an _implemented_ solution of this would lead to less empty kwallet passwords in the world.)

If you hack pam it is possible, but that is not that secure or stable. Read http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=92845

Wow. Old bug :-) thanks, guess it'll take some time until this is a practical and stable possibility …
