Help for bugs.kde.org

Thu Jan 05, 2012 5:02 pm
I'm having trouble using the bugs.kde.org site, and I can't find a help file for it. Where might it be? Meanwhile, a couple of questions:

1. I'm looking at a bug and I want to make it easy to retrieve it again. I assume that I should put it on the "My Bugs" list. But how do I do that? (I am indeed logged into the site.)

2. Is there a way to order bug lists chronologically?

I struggle with the site too.

"My Bugs" is a list of bugs for which you have made the initial report and are still active. My "My Bugs" list is currently empty as all have been marked as duplicates or have been deemed not to be valid bug reports.

(Actually that's not quite true, it is really a saved search that by default searches for bugs with various statuses and the reporter or assignee is you. I think "My Bugs" could search for anything including a list of bug numbers by adding them into one of the search fields.)

In order to quickly find a bug that I am interested in I usually vote for it. It then appears under "Manage my votes".

That's really the long way around the barn, isn't it! I wish there was some way of making a list of "bugs I'm interested in". It was only recently that I discovered how to list the bugs I've reported, but even then there's no way to get them in chronological order that I can find.

Is there a place for making suggestions about the bugs.kde.org site itself?

https://bugs.kde.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=bugs.kde.org and changing the severity to "wishlist" is all I can find.

Might seem like a hack of sorts, but why not just make a Bookmarks folder in your browser of choice and save the bugs in your browser? If you are using XMarks or some other type of bookmark manager, you can even just label the Bookmarks as "KDE Bugs" or similar and not even worry about how they are stored.

Another way (which is integrated to the site) is to add yourself to the CC list for the bug. This will also help keep you informed on the status of the bug - as you will get emails as comments and the status of the bug changes.

The amount of email you get from Bugzilla can be customised in the User preferences area of bugs.kde.org.
