I want to create an extension (plugin, script, macro??) to automatically create or update the active file's bookmarks based on a known and consistent string within a document. It is to complement asciidoc which uses increasing number of equal signs to signify title level.

I use the Bookmarks menu item to quickly move around a document. If the document exists and I open it for the first time, I want to create the bookmarks. If I'm editing the document a lot, I want to clear and recreate the bookmarks.

The session would be the current session name. I see in .kde4/share/apps/kate/sessions/<session_name> keys like:
  • URL=<file:///...>
  • Bookmarks=<lineno1,lineno2,line3..>
All the pieces are there, I just have to put them together :-)

I checked, http://kate-editor.org, but didn't find anything or didn't search for the right thing.

What is the official way?
Documentation, methods, pointers, to get me started, would greatly be appreciated?

Thank you.
