Double-Tap to Drag... Inhumanly fast to perform. Fix?

Hello!

I've been using KDE for a while now (6 years...!) and it is by far my favorite open project, everything the devs do here is fantastic, makes perfect sense, and makes my life easier, more fun, and just wonderful in general.

I've recently taken the opportunity to switch from openSUSE to Linux Mint KDE. Apart from a few niggles, I like it. One thing I have to adjust every time I install or update a distro is the touchpad settings.

I have a second or third generation EEE PC. They have notoriously bad 'touchpad buttons', and those on my computer are almost unusable, so I tap for everything and hardly notice I don't have use of the buttons.

The problem I have is the "Drag items by tapping the touchpad and immediately touching it again" option. I find that the time required between the first tap and the second tap-and-hold is so fast that it takes at least five times to get it to work. Which is incredibly annoying, as KDE these days is pretty dependent on dragging widgets around and the like (not to mention selecting text).

I know I didn't have this problem before, I was running openSUSE with an older version of KDE 4, as of now I have installed KDE 4.8.

Is there a config file I can edit? I have tried using the touchpad settings and the mouse settings to fix this, but nothing seems to be affecting the double-tap.

Edit: In the process of looking for a new distro, I have installed several, Kubuntu, Chakra, openSUSE 12.1... and they all have the same problem.

Edit2: There has to be some way to edit this, am I missing something totally obvious or is there no config file to edit?
