Hi,
I have upgraded ubuntu to the latest Precise Pangolin (12.04). I read the post about the postgresql driver being included in the Calligra Office Suite and so .. I installed the Calligra Office Suite. Of note. we are not running KDE but are attempting to work within the new ubuntu Unity interface. But although my previous "Projects Stored On Database Server" show when starting Kexi, the ability to select for the MySQL or PostgreSQL engine in "Edit Database Connection" is not available: the feature is there, the selections are not. "Test Connection" show a failure for this very reason. I can't think what to do next, I see no similar issues raised on this forum. Where did my old driver go? Anne |

Hello Anne, The driver is available but (per our recommendation for distributors) it is in optional package since not everyone needs it. The package is called kexi-postgresql-driver, more details at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/precise/am ... sql-driver. Please use your package manager. Similarly, kexi-mysql-driver (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/precise/am ... sql-driver) delivers support for MySQL.
That's not a problem. Kexi is designed for any desktop environment or window manager.
This leads to useful idea - we could give some hint on the Database Server page if user has no extra drivers installed at all... |

Jaroslaw, hi & thanks for the quick response
... but we sink deeper into the morass I used apt-get and got the driver installed. Then off we go, the 'Postgres' engine showing as before - but each time the application crashes as we try to "Test Connection". "Application: Kexi (kexi), signal: Aborted" is all that is available right now so I will study the recommended document on debugging more closely than so far... and install kdelibs5-dbg (mandatory) kdekexi-dbg (I guess) but not tonight. I'll be in touch shortly. Anne |

Perhaps there's a bug in Test Connection feature (specific to this Ubuntu package or not). So you could try to create PostgreSQL-based Kexi project without clicking Test Connection.
PS: In Kexi 3 we're dropping the libpqxx library in favour to (more stable in many aspects) libpq. |

Hi,
I'm not sure where we are at, my wifi has gone awol for a few days apparently. I did install the ked debug file but did not find one specific to kexi. If I now connect in the shop we are actually going, but it still crashes if I "Test Connection" using the remote connection choice (well, not valid when connected to the shop network, but it should just report no connection. Sadly still no crash info). I'll keep on this when the wifi is back up. It is really flakey sometimes and I wonder if this has something to do with it. Anne |
