localization ?

Thu Sep 06, 2012 3:19 pm
I just installed Kexi in a french localized kubuntu 12.04, and Kexi shows in english.
I found no configuration menu in Kexi.
How could I localize it in french ?

Thanks

Please install the package calligra-l10n-fr and set your language to fr in systemsettings

Considering you have translation installed, it can be picked also just for Kexi if this is desired. To do so, go to Help --> Switch Application Language.

Adding screenshot below as the Help Menu has special look in Kexi's Modern Menu:

thanks for showing the «localization» of help in modern kexi

BTW, in the form design windows, the french translation for the combobox label shows erroneously as «case à cocher».
Should be «liste déroulante».

Thanks. Translators are teamed up within this project: http://l10n.kde.org/team-infos.php?teamcode=fr.

I'll show you how to find out translator who you can contact regarding improvements:
* on the above page click 'Applications in trunk' link,
* vlick calligra, then kexi.po, then 'view' in the 'Links to HEAD' line,
* voilà, you can see the translation file (the «case à cocher» is there too) and the line with contact to the most recent coordinator/author of fr translation: xavier <xavier.besnard@neuf.fr>, 2012.

If you download such file you would be able fix even more mistranslations, then send back the file to the coordinator. Just please let him know before (ideally through the Mailing Lists mentioned at http://l10n.kde.org/team-infos.php?teamcode=fr). It's typical that people sometimes translate terms out of context or translation is inaccurate, so your contribution is really welcome!

I’m unable to see or download french.po

thanks for the next trick

Robert, there is no french.po -- kexi.po filename for every language is kept unchanged, it's just located in different subfolder.

If you start at http://l10n.kde.org/team-infos.php?teamcode=fr and follow my instruction, you'll finally get to http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/l10n-kde4/f ... o?view=log

Here, please look at the line Links to HEAD: (view) (download) (as text) (annotate) , click downlad.

Note 1: above link is for so-called trunk branch, i.e. development branch, what means Kexi 2.6 now. To fix translation for Kexi 2.5 (current stable), visit http://websvn.kde.org/branches/stable/l ... /calligra/.

Note 2: because Kexi is plugin-based, it has some translation in separate files rather than in centralized kexi.po:

kformdesigner_mapbrowser.po
kformdesigner_webbrowser.po
KexiRelationDesignShapePlugin.po
koreport_barcodeplugin.po
koreport_chartplugin.p
koreport_mapsplugin.po
koreport_webplugin.po

Once someone gets a bit more advanced, for easy updates there is subversion (svn) tool which can be used. http://l10n.kde.org/team-infos.php?teamcode=fr page shows how to use svn in Checkout PO files section.

You can also file a bug report at bugs.kde.org, against the l10n/i18n product, component fr.
