Hi,
I'm new to both things: Xubuntu distro and Kexi DB builder. Everything runs fine except I have some funnyone Asian Caracter displaying on my French configured Xubuntu XFCE desktop. Does any one knows how to replace those Asian (or whatever unredable) caracters/font with the right one ? except from the Login Menu where I have choice between US,Chinese and French, I do not use any Asian setting anywhere... *maybe that is linked to this prob. I checked the font installed and it is all well set to use UTF8 and FR font system I'd like to start using the Kexi builder withtout this problem ! Thanks Sorry If this is not the right place to post. I can t figure out what :the little mouse distro is or not KDE related |

can you better describe what and where those funny characters occur?
can you post a pic of the issue (use a 3rd party hosting site, the forum doesn't host pics) You posted on the Kexi forum because it only occurs in Kexi? |

Hi manager,
Using this distro since yesterday, I have not noticed the same issue with other software yet, but have not opened many too... but yes, it seems only Kexi is affected so far. in other area of the Desktop used, things are displayed in my language fine as far as I tested it. Here is the pic. I had run a Commmand line to list font installed, but I cannot find the post to run it again, if you have some commands to use, I can run and post anew.. |

to list fonts either fc-list or xlsfonts (very large output), there should (I would guess) be some font management tool in Xfce
so your system is set to use French? if you switch to English do the Asian characters disappear? Those characters look Chinese and you seem to have the Chinese language pack installed, can you find and un-install it |

in openSUSE there is a Calligra French language package and since Kexi is part of Calligra that could be your issue

So...How do you change the System language ? - I'm lost with all those icons.
Meanwhile - since I use a specific source / ubuntu Kantal - to get Kexi, I have deactivated this source. ...ran a system update Beside, among the updates I notice two 2 chinese fonts planned updates for Calligra, so deactivated those. It looks as if Kexi is replacing non-existing Kexi's French word with Chinese ones... |

you disabled the Chinese language updates but did you also remove the installed Chines packages? all, not just Calligra

Ahhh, just got that, It searched Chinese and found a KDE and Calligra Chinese stuff, so, suppressed both,
and now, I have English Words, mixed with French words in Kexi ! So it partially "solves" the problem....but shouldn't the Whole interface be available in French yet |

KEXI displays now English/French Menus...

yes, it should be all French
3 things to try: - if you don't use English try removing the En language package(s) - if you have nothing of importance KDE related (including Kexi) close Kexi and rename the folder ~/.kde/ - can you create and test a new user |

I'm in the middle of a sys update so:
- cant open the manager to look for those Eng Files. - I have a Kexi executable in Usr/bin folder, do you mean renaming the executable or some other folder ? - I can create another Session user no prob. ...and then what ? |

not talking about the executable, just your KDE and Kexi config and work files, I don't use Kexi so Im' not sure where it places the db's and such - trying to see if we remove all the stuff in ~/.kde and start fresh if it will fix the problem. renaming ~/.kde/share/config may accomplish the same
if a new user is fine then it show there's something amiss in your current account not something system wide and you could just use that user |

One possibility here is that the Kexi translation into French is incomplete. That is why you are seeing the English text, as it is being forced to fallback.
As to why it was previously displaying other languages, you will probably find they were listed above English in the preferred languages list. This can be found and changed in System Settings > Locale > Country/Region & Language > Language.
