On a MATE Mint16 64bit I run project-neon in order to use the unstable Kexi.
One month ago, it used to run smoothly with a menu desktop. Then I tried uninstall the wallet, and now I have a KDE kickoff which doesn't display anything when requested...... |

In your Neon desktop, what is the value of "echo $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS"?

When in MATE session
leleu@leleu-portable:~ > echo $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS /etc/xdg/xdg-mate:/etc/xdg leleu@leleu-portable:~ > When in Neon session there is no accessible terminal in the ALT+F2 window or in tty2 echo $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS returns no echo and,...... the ALT+F2 window allows to open the SaystemActivity window, and I saw there about 30 occurences of akonadi-agent-launcher |

In Alt + F2, try running "konsole" and executing the echo command in that terminal. Also, is the window which opens decorated? If it is not, does running kwin --replace in KRunner (Alt + F2) help?

Launching Konsole from «ALT+F2» just shows a dangling terminal icon for some seconds
Same for Dolfin and Konqueror from the task bar The contextual menu of the task bar gives «Add widget» . Widgets are shown in a black window, but doesn't add when required Launching «kwin --replace» just close the window I don't know enough KDE to appreciate if the «ALT+F2» window is decorated (it seems to be since thera are «?x» icons attached I installed mint-meta-kde, in the hope to «see» KDE, but this didn't add a KDE entry in the connection window |

The KRunner / Alt + F2 window is special - it is always undecorated. It sounds like your system has some deeper problems if Konsole, Konqueror and Dolphin are unable to launch. Could you try running Konsole from a virtual terminal, as follows?

I had to install konsole, and when launched it just wrote (twice)
QDBusCommunication: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave. I do agree that the problem is not only the absence of menu. There is also all these akonadi tasks. But the problem is only with Neon Session Would it not be simpler to uninstall Project-Neon (I did it twice), to clean any clue of this project (I tried but presumably did not succeed), and to have a new installation of project-neon ? As a last resort I install a new Mint17 (to replace 16) by the end of may, but I'm afraid to loose the sound..... |

It may be worth trying a new user - unless there have been substantial changes to the packages recently then i'm not sure a reinstallation will be able to help resolve the issue.

Good idea, that's always useful test. |

Indeed a new user opens Neon OK
What if I substitute the ~/.project-neon-kde repertory of this new user to my own ? |

It's safe to try this.

So, I substituted the ~/.project-neon-kde repertory of this new user to my own, and I receive an error
call to Iusertemp failed (temporary directories full ?) Check your installation which is curious since gparted shows : sda1 (boot) 64.74 Gio free sda5 (swap) sdb1 (datas) 218,79 Gio free but following a «google» suggestion I erase ~/.project-neon-kde repertory and got a correct start of KDE however the 2.8.2 Kexi in Project-neon doesn't recognise the kexi files..... then I installed project-neon-calligra, and found kexi 2.9, able to open my ex, which is able to open existing datas, which is exactly what I want. So now anything is OK. Thanks for your help. |

Not a problem. In general, after copying over a ~/.kde4/ or equivalent directory, you need to remove the socket-*, cache-* and tmp-* symlinks from it - otherwise it will attempt to use the corresponding directories of the user they're being copied from.
