I use Ubuntu 14.04 and currently have Kexi 2.8.1 installed. Here the verision I have:
Qt: 4.8.6 KDE Development Platform: 4.13.2 Kexi: 2.8.1 This version of Kexi has a troublesome bug in it, which I am told has been resolved in 2.8.5. (This is the problem I face in 2.8.1: Any time the cursor crosses the border between the Project Navigator and the Table Data, the table abruptly jumps to the beginning. This is extremely disruptive to doing any work in the table. ) In order to upgrade to 2.8.5, please kindly confirm whether these would be the correct terminal commands for someone using Ubuntu 14.04: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install kexi I do want to ensure these steps are only going to update Kexi, and won't change anything else. I am quite happy with everything else in the computer now and don't want to change anything. |

After running "apt-get install kexi" it should prompt you with a list of packages it is going to update/install. If you post the full output of that command here we can examine it to see if anything outside the Calligra applications will be affected. When it asks if you wish to proceed, answer "n".

Many thanks for your reply. Here is the output of that command:
===================================================== swarup@swarup:~$ sudo apt-get install kexi Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done The following extra packages will be installed: calligra-data calligra-libs Suggested packages: khelpcenter4 wordnet texlive kexi-calligrasheets-driver kexi-mysql-driver kexi-postgresql-driver kexi-xbase-driver kexi-sybase-driver Recommended packages: fonst-lyx The following packages will be upgraded: calligra-data calligra-libs kexi 3 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 66 not upgraded. Need to get 10.5 MB of archives. After this operation, 29.7 kB of additional disk space will be used. Do you want to continue? [Y/n] n Abort. swarup@swarup:~$ ===================================================== Does it look like it is going to what we want i.e. uprade Kexi, and not change anything else? Add: 5 minutes after I completed the three commands mentioned in my first post, the software updater appeared saying there were updates to install. I always run those, and so quickly gave it the go-ahead. It then occurred to me that these might be updates related with Kubuntu. I looked to see what it was doing-- it downloaded 90 mb of updates which included updates/changes to the kernal, and updates to much of the software in my computer such as Firefox, Thunderbird etc etc. All the updates were related with kubuntu. Now I am afraid to shut down my computer. Rebooting it will install all those changes. Is it going to boot me up into Kubuntu or something like that? |

The changes proposed there only cover Calligra/Kexi - so yes, they are safe to perform. Please note that the Kubuntu PPA should not have affected any packages such as the Kernel. Do you have a log of what was updated? These could have been ordinary Ubuntu updates.

I don't have a log of it, now. It was after the following two commands were performed and accepted that the software updater came with 90 mb to download:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/ppa sudo apt-get update When I saw all the stuff related with the kernel and FF, TB etc in the software updater, I tried to copy all the details as they appeared in the detail window. In the end I found that nothing had been copied. So although I had wanted to send it to you, I couldn't. If there is any way to retreive a log of that, let me konw. Or otherwise if you think it is safe to turn off the computer and boot up, installing the changes, then I'll do so. And once it boots, I will then execute the terminal window command to install kexi. Is the terminal window command to "install kexi" going to effectively be an upgrade of what is already installed, or is it a fresh install? Will I need to first uninstall the currently installed version? (If so, please give the terminal command to do so.) |

There is no need to uninstall the previous version of Kexi - the command I gave should update it in place. Unfortunately i'm not aware of any other logs - considering the update manager was used. As long as it was only a Kernel, Firefox and Thunderbird update however (and nothing KDE was mentioned) it should be safe to reboot (although please ensure you have a Live CD nearby in case of problems).

The upgrade to Kexi 2.8.5 worked fine with no issues.
Nonetheless the bug I was told would be resolved by the upgrade (described briefly in the first post on this thread), remains. That matter I will raise in a separate thread. Thanks for all your help and support. Swarup |

I am sorry it's still visible! The issue has been finally reproduced and is on its way to release 2.8.6. PS: Could you please file a bug at bugs.kde.org? |
