Hi,
The wording on 'Kexi/Handbook/Command Reference/The External Data Tab' regarding import is as follows: "Import Tables, opens the Table Importing Wizard that allows you to import data either from a fods, mdb, ods, tsv file or from another database server, to a new table in your project". (It neglects to clarify who creates the 'new table' - the Wizard, or the user. Presumeably the Wizard or there would be no need to use the word 'new'). Is this saying either that the Table Importing Wizard a. allows you to import the data . . . . from another database server, to a new existing table in your project OR b. allows you to import the table and data . . . . from another database server, creating a new table in your project In my case I created and prototyped a new table as a separate project on my postgresql server from within kexi. Now I wanted to copy that table and data into my main application. Same server. Having read the handbook wording I understood it to contain the meaning (b) above. But I end up with 'unknown error' and thus I wonder if meaning (a) is the correct one and that I should have created an identical table in the existing project to receive the data. The actual English wording is slightly ambiguous. Please clarify. I was of course hoping to save the work of creating an identical table (with possible attendant errors in so doing) I could propose slightly differing wording, including suggesting that the Table Importing Wizard is a Data Importing Wizard if it does not create the new table in the process. I have the choice of either editing the above, or writing further here which is what I will do.
This is not a semantic issue as I initially thought. I later noted that "Welcome To The Table Importing Wizard" window clearly states: "Table Importing wizard allows you to import a table from an existing database into the current Kexi database" I take this to mean table structure with associated data - as I originally thought. Thus we have a technical issue where i cannot "import a table from an existing database into the current Kexi database". Experimenting with different 'from' and 'to' databases brings no results. Is this feature operational? regards Ian |

Hi Ian. thanks for reviewing the 'Import Table' feature. It looks like broken at the moment, possible details have to be fixed but that alone make it nonfunctional. The feature is meant to be used for import of entire tables.
I believe it can be fixed for 2.8.6 or in worst case for 2.9. BTW, A bug report would be useful. |
