Re: How to change Field Data Type

As soon as I try to press the down arrow Kexi crashes with the following Crash Information ...

Application: Kexi (kexi), signal: Segmentation fault
[Current thread is 1 (process 27221)]

Thread 1 (process 27221):
#0 0x00007f1a1c9b1fdd in ?? ()
#1 0x0000000000000000 in ?? ()

Please send me all the information you see. Do you have the Report Bug button in this dialog?

https://techbase.kde.org/File:Kde-crash-handler.png

If so please use it, it will create a bug entry at bugs.kde.org. This is the official way of reporting and I think easiest for all of us in long term.

Combo Boxes: I have asked this question many times - originally earlier this year when I first tested Kexi and now currently in this and another thread. I have received no definitive answer at all and am starting to wonder if these Combo Boxes work at all!! The only reply I have received is a link to a post that I can not understand or get to work!!
My current attempt is as follows ...
Setup Table - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4QRSiSnDQQjbERmRnZQakxaZ0E/view?usp=sharing

1. First things first.
http://wstaw.org/m/2016/07/27/plasma-desktopel1807.png
To use combo boxes please set type to Integer, not Text. Integer numbers are used to refer to the data in other table.

2. Then the referenced table is the same table1 itself. This can't work - you get endless reference to the same table, the same field. You need another table to form one-to-many relationship. For this very knowledge one read in books or in the internet. Suitable chapter would find it's place in https://userbase.kde.org/Special:MyLang ... ase_Tables one day when we find a sponsor for that.
I think I have linked to a 'simple database' sample that has 'ownership' table that has references to two other tables.

http://wstaw.org/m/2016/07/27/plasma-desktopaI1807.png

That's what you're trying to do I think.

3. Regarding data entry to tables and creating forms: I wouldn't skip to these steps until the table(s) are properly designed and are works as you expect.

Could you please send me the .kexi file privately?

Thanks Jaroslow

Don't know why but I now find the "Export to File" option that did not come up before!! (The mysteries of Computers!!!)
I can now export my data, correct my Data Types and re-import.
Looking forward to doing this - together with the Report problem you solved for me on the other thread.

I do note however another total lack of any explanation of Combo Boxes !!!
Maybe I'm right and they just don't work.
Or maybe we have to wait for the "New" version of Kexi???

Appreciate your help!!

No, no, no. Please no gossips - people will google them tomorrow and treat as facts :)

Combo boxes do work since 1.1.2 (1.6.2 in Calligra numbering) ie. since Feb 21, 2007, according to the visual history at http://kexi-project.org/screenshots.html

I think we would eventually sort out things step by step in the other thread.

Hi Jaroslaw

For some reason my reply to your last post has not gone through - I sent it yesterday.

I said ...

Thanks for the re-pointer to the link for "Export to File" For some in-known reason it now works!!?? (The Mysteries of Computers!!)

My second point was to comment that you have STILL not given me definitive details on how to get the Combo Boxes to work!! The one link you sent I can not understand or get to work. I have even sent a "Test Layout" that I did for you to comment on and still no information. I'm starting to think that in fact they do not (yet) work correctly!!??

Anyway - Thanks for all the GREAT (other) help.
I've been 'working' with my Database for the past week now and it's fast and (so far) ROCK SOLID. I'm LOVING IT!!

I think you did here viewtopic.php?f=221&t=135004#p361477 and I answered. More to come.
