Hi All
I find it rather strange - mid Dec I started a topic about feedback on Kexi and asked some questions to which there has been NO replies!! Mid-January I started a topic about Data not being saved and again there have been NO replies. Both these two topics you will see below this one on the Forum. I am on several other Forums and use them often and always get some sort of reply. So - does this mean that there are very few people on this Forum, nobody with knowledge on these subjects or is it just nobody with any interest in helping out?? I have always believed that User Forums were there to help out and advance user knowledge!! I find this rather distressing as I find Kexi a very good program and am actively using it every day!! I hope I get some kind of response to this topic at least!! |

Probably this. I - for one - would have to even look up what kexi even is (google => looks a bit like pgAdmin) Usually the replies are comming, but unlike paid support (honestly, those answers are mostly junk) people usually don't reply on topics they know nothing about unless it's a "oh, that happens to me too!" post. But just about everyone browsing the linux forums has a "well, if I know something I'll help" mentality. So, yeah, maybe anyone around doesn't know anything about your issue. That CAN happen. |

Hi there, the forum notifications could be better - I don't receive all of them.
In particular we never receive topic information in emails (if they eventually come). Forum issues can be reported at posting.php?mode=post&f=9 and let us know about the results. I'd encourage other forum users to be more involved too, that's the idea of the forums. Everyone can answer, how many users have been encouraged by you to use Kexi and how many Kexi users do you know? Answering this can help to estimate how quick the answers can be. Also when asking about particular question, please use right thread, starting another one causes that the right threads are moving down and disappear from the main screen. That means... @Ian I understand you also refer this thread: viewtopic.php?f=221&t=137715 Please note that multi-topic threads are much harder to follow and handle. There will be reply I think, no worries. You're also asking about distribution-related things, not just usage. We're not distributors of these versions here. Recently we're trying to address that - there's a new version to test: viewtopic.php?f=220&t=138821&p=371598#p371598. You can try it and report your thoughts. Checking all the places where people can ask - by hand - consumes time that would be used otherwise for help. I tried to use some RSS and such. Please note that if helping requires more testing and even programming, volunteer needs to find resources for that. @timorei Kexi is not a database admin app See A1.2 at http://kexi-project.org/wiki/wikiview/i ... xiFAQ.html for example. |

Thanks timori and Jarosław
I wonder why timori is on the Kexi Forum when he says he has no idea even what Kexi is or does?? As I mentioned I'm on a couple of other Forums and we get lots of replies to all the questions posted there - hence my comment on the number of people on the Kexi Forum with the time, interest and knowledge to help out and spread the info that we all need!! This seems to be backed-up by Jaroslaw with his comments to encourage more people to participate!! I'm having great success with Kexi, using it on a daily basis and find it VERY stable - FAR BETTER than LO Base!! But I have a lot of the finer points to learn. So seen as usual I still not got and suggestions or answers to my questions again - Is there an up-to-date Handbook available for Kexi that I can download or maybe a Wikki?? I;m VERY keen to try the new version out to see if some of my "problems" have been cured or changed but it is not available in my Repo. So I decided to try the AppImage idea - downloaded the Image file and ran the commands as stated and this is what I got .....
So I'm still stuck with no answers to my old questions and no way it seems to be able to teest the new version!!! Any suggestions please?? |

Well, to see the file:
Then use "chmod a+x" on that file. Or use a file manager of choice and change the permission of the file. |

That's exactly what I did Jaroslaw!!
The file is in that Folder and 'ls' shows it!! And as you can see - all I get is the 'Command not found' error (???) |

This is because your command was: $ The command was 'chmod', $ is only a traditional indicator of a command like prompt I _recommend_ learning basics of the command line (example: http://lifehacker.com/5633909/who-needs ... t-anything) _or_ using only the GUI tools like Dolphin or other file managers. Since you're heading to a poweruser status while using Kexi for seriuous things I think earlier or later you'd benefit from the command line knowledge anyway. |

Sorry, I was just answering a non-kexi part of the question. And I've been here due to either the "active topics" or "view unanswered" filters that don't discriminate. I've read up on it, but that doesn't put me in a place to answer technical questions. Guess I should stick to either UX/UI or Kernel stuff in the future. |

@timorei No problem. You already helped here.
I think there's a lot that can be done to help the authors or experts, for example gathering more info that is too frequently missing, like application version, operating system and identifying scenario, googling/looking for similar cases. Then the authors/experts can receive a complete question. Also passing the request to bugs.kde.org for someone is a great help too. Too many folks are just afraid of mistakes but they shouldn't. Thanks again. |

My last post (Sunday) seems to have gone AWOL??
I replied thanking you Jaroslaw for picking up the Typo in my command. That's what it was not that I didn't understand!! So I corrected the error and can get the new 3,1 running now. But if I try to open my Database the program just stops (freezes). So I tried to Import it into the Kexi Program and I get an error that the format is not supported!! The file is a standard Kexi file that runs perfectly in 2.9.11!!?? So my question now is how do I get my old file into the New version of Kexi. Also you did not reply about if there is any update to the Kexi Manual for 3.1?? Thanks a lot. |
