Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
I just Install Kexi version 1.2.9.7 but is very old and I believe doesn't work properly in Ubuntu. I want to install or update to version is 3.0.0, I only found one which is a Unstable release 2.1.4 and as a warning "Be warned though, stuff here is REALLY unstable, we do not guarantee it will work all the time” don’t find one Stable for Ubuntu 16.04, I need advise on the version and how should be installed. Thank you |

Despite of the name for me it's hard to call Ubuntu LTS versions a "long term support" operating system from the perspective of applications. I think it would make sense if you contact the Ubuntu support team and explain your needs , i.e. access to fresh software that is a standard on other operating systems. Or consider compiling Kexi, hiring someone who does it for you or switching the operating system or adding a virtualized one.
These are practical advices for the users, not an attempt to criticize Ubuntu for its software policy. Kexi 2.9.7 is almost 24 months old. It seems hard to correctly react to users' help/fix request if they are obtaining updates 24 months after we implemented given fix... We're not affiliated with Ubuntu in any way. We're about to release 3.0.2 within days so as you can imagine even 2.9.11 is reaching end of its life. Edit: For universal Linux version of Kexi from May 2017 you may want to visit https://community.kde.org/Kexi/Snapshots. It's already a bit old though. |

By the way, this is a past stable version without critical issues known on Ubuntu. |

Hello,
I'm also looking for a way to install version 3.0.x on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS or 14.04 LTS or Debian. It would be great to have a package for Kexi. Is the version 3.0.x known to be working on Ubuntu 16.04 ? I don't mind to build from source but it seems to be a bit complicated.. (at least more than just ./configure and make) I'm asking for Ubuntu because it seems it has a very good share of Linux based distro usage among developper. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_sha ... ng_systems Thanks ssinfod |

Try from this ppa: https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ci/+arch ... ntu/stable. Filter for xenial.
Install the ppa-purge package first in case you need to reverse the changes made by installing kexi from the ppa. |

Thanks hiteshshah for supporting our users.
Regarding building we want to rewrite the build instructions, since Kexi is no longer in the same build-system as Calligra the approach changes, at least configuration is simpler. Inksi is one of the users who is in progress of building... A note for users. No non-trivial software uses just ./configure ; make approach anymore unless it copies (legaly or not but error-prone for sure) all the required 3rd-party software needed. 3rd-part software needs to be built first or installed, that's where the complication appears. It's mostly one-time learning, then - the wonders of being up to date! |
