Hello everybody,

I am using kubuntu 12.04 and dolphin 2.0. I am looking for two features in dolphin and I was wondering if you could tell me how to do it (if possible).

1 - The terminal in dolphin (F4) is really great. Whenever the dolphin folder is changed, the terminal folder is also changed. However this doesn't work in the other direction. Is it possible (through a shortcut or something), to change dolphin current folder to the one in it's integrated terminal ? I know I can copy the terminal path with the mouse and then past it but I am looking at something more direct (like a shortcut or a command).

2 - When I open dolphin in a folder, is it possible to open it in a new tab of an existing dolphin window (if any) rather than in a new window ? I am using Yakuake and I find it really practical to regroup all the terminal in one window by default and I think it could be great to be able to do that in dolphin (on top of that the Yakuake window is common to all desktop and only appear with F12 but it's maybe not dolphin philosophy, too bad I would have loved it !).

Thanks in advance for you help.

Hi!

I use dolphin 2.1 and it already does this by default; you can just "cd" somewhere and the dolphin window will switch too.

Are you talking about the fileview windows, or terminal tabs? I don't think the dolphin terminal has tabs (since it's only the console kpart, and the tabs are provided by yakuake/konsole usually). If you mean the file view, you can middle-click something to get it in a new tab.

Greetings,

I'm working on the KDevelop IDE.

Ok, thanks I'll try the new version.

For the second point I wasn't really clear. I am indeed talking about the fileview window (and not the terminal). But I was referring to the opening of dolphin from another software. For example when I go in Amarok in the properties of one song, I can open dolphin in the song's folder. Is it possible that instead of opening a new dolphin window in that case, a new tab in an existing dolphin window is open ? (to avoid the multiplication of the dolphin windows, like yakuake does with the konsole window).

I hope it's more clear.

The first issue you mentioned is indeed implemented since KDE 4.9: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=156732

For the second issue, a wishlist report has been filed some time ago: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=183429
I agree that this would be a nice feature, but I can't promise if/when it will be implemented. There isn't much time available for Dolphin development, and bug fixing has a higher priority.
